Rishi Chawla has a multidisciplinary knowledge and experience relating
to the development of the Internet. He has worked on the Policy, legal and technical
issues of the Internet. Because of his technical knowledge and excellent communication
skills he would be an effective and efficient member of the NRO Number Council.
Rishi is the Country Co-ordinator of the GIPI project which has
the objective of improving Internet Penetration; especially in the developing countries,
through Policy and Law Reforms. He has been involved in the Internet policy reforms
in India, especially concerning Legalising Internet Telephony, Opening up of the
Wireless Internet etc.
Rishi is the Founding Director of the National Internet Exchange of India - the only Internet Exchange in India established as a partnership of
Government of India and the ISP sector of India. Rishi helped in the establishement
of NIXI through research of global best practices relating to Internet Exchanges and
Internet Policies. Rishi was a member of NIXI's routing policy task force.
Rishi is Founding Director in the .IN Registry which is the Indian
cctld authority. He is a member of the Dispute Respolution Committee and has been
instrumental in drafting and establishing the Domain name Dispute policy and selection of
Arbitrators for the same.
Rishi is the Founding President of the Internet Society, New Delhi
Chapter, India, and participated as ISOC Ambassador in the Internet Governance Debate
during the WSIS.
He has been chosen to be Advisor by the Diplo Foundation, Malta, for their Internet
Governance Capacity Building Project.
Rishi is on the governing board of the Computer Society of India
Rishi has made several international presentations regarding Internet policies and
regulations, and has written several papers on the same.
