Experience and involvement in APNIC activities

My career began in the early 2000s, focusing on policy development for IP addresses and AS numbers within the Asia-Pacific community. My tenure as a policy maker at the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and my contributions as a member of the Executive Council (EC) at the Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) have honed my expertise in internet address management and policy formulation. From 2005 to 2007, my work with National Internet Registries (NIRs) and APNIC, particularly in policy development and cooperative system enhancement, underscored my commitment to advancing internet infrastructure in the AP region.

My involvement with the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) at ICANN in 2008 allowed me to represent the Korean government’s stance on naming resources and internet governance issues, providing me with invaluable insights into global internet policy dynamics. Furthermore, organizing the Freedom of Expression session at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in 2009 and participating in the Working Party on Information Security and Privacy (WPISP) at the OECD in 2011 underscored my dedication to fostering open and secure internet ecosystems.

Since 2012, I have collaborated with Multilateral Development Banks, including the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, focusing on ICT and cyber security, further broadening my international policy experience. My role as a member of the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) at IGF in 2016 and my leadership of the ICANN Seoul office in 2017 highlight my ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and develop capacity-building programs.

In 2019, I was honored to be elected as Chair of the National Internet Registry (NIR) Special Interest Group (SIG), where I led efforts to enhance regional internet policy discussions. My recent role in KISA’s cyber security policy team has deepened my understanding of national-level cyber security strategies and best practices, ensuring a holistic approach to internet governance and security.
