Biographical info

Education/qualifications: Shradha has completed her bachelors degree in Policy and Law with special focus on policy and social transformation from National Law University, Tamil Nadu, India.

Experience and involvement in APNIC activities: Shradha has been a part of the APNIC community since the past two years. Her engagement started when she was selected as a fellow for the APNIC 52 and she learnt the ropes from some of the best lectures and webinar sessions during the fellowship Training program. Shradha later participated in the Youth Internet Governance Forum in India as a speaker where she spoke about her experience at APNIC 52. Shradha also worked as a General Mentor for the APNIC 54 cohort of fellows to ensure they feel welcomed and cherished as they join the APNIC Community.

Nominee statement

Shradha is currently an APNIC 54 returning fellow and has recently completed her law and policy degree from National Law University, Tamil Nadu, India. She is a board member for the Youth Special Interest Group at ISOC and is working as a lawyer in India. She is also an APNIC 52 Fellowship awardee and was selected for APIGA 2021. She likes to work towards making internet affordable and promoting universal acceptance in the field of internet governance. She is a passionate advocate of liberty and seeks to educate, develop and empower the people at grassroots to be agents of change in their communities.

The Cooperation SIG is a forum for discussion about broader Internet issues like Public Policy and Internet Governance, which are related to APNIC community interests, but which involve governments, other organizations, and other communities. Over the past years Shradha has been gaining active experience participating in Policy related issues such as Internet Governance and decision making. She will bring a fresh and detailed perspective into building new and stronger connection with the multi stakeholders and solidify the existing relationships of APNIC community with governments, private entities, and civil society.

The SIG should focus on information sharing, outreach, capacity building, and other activities that will Advance APNIC’s vision for a global, open, stable, and secure Internet. Shradha's skills will help her coordinate for the activities of the Special Interest Group to discuss and innovate new ideas and steps to instil and further cooperation and capacity building in the Internet Community in the Asia Pacific Region. She has been in constant interaction with a diverse cohort of people in the Internet Community ranging from multi stakeholders such as Government Policymakers, Private Companies decisionmakers for DNS Registration and most importantly the Civil Society members who from the core of the community due to her active participation in the internet governance and policymaking stages such as APNIC 52, APSIG 2021, APIGA 2021 among other National events such as India School of Internet Governance 2020 and 2019 and YIGF 2021.

There is an important aspect where the Cooperation SIG can aid the vision of APNIC for a global, open, stable, and secure Internet by connecting the civil society members with organizations national, local - Organizations such as APNIC Community, ICANN Community and SIG’s of ISOC Community to give that exposure and help them become digitally literate across sectors. All people irrespective of their gender, disabilities, rural and urban we need to involve all of them, to initiate a dialogue for a novel concept of intersectional equity task force.

Organizations such as APNIC can empower people in tech to strengthen their knowledge and capacity as young Internet experts and to lay the foundations for their future participation in drafting amicus curiae briefs and other policies which will directly impact their future learning process. Shradha has a detailed experience in helping the community to learn and grow together. These are my reasons for nominating her for the role.

Reason for nomination: Shradha's skills will help her coordinate for the activities of the Special Interest Group to discuss and innovate new ideas and steps to instil and further cooperation in the Internet Community in the Asia Pacific Region. She has been in constant interaction with a diverse cohort of people in the Internet Community ranging from multi stakeholders such as Government Policymakers, Private Companies for DNS Registration and most importantly the Civil Society members who from the core of the community. Shradha also has played a major role in ensuring that the new entrants to the Internet Community in the Asia Pacific are welcomed with utmost zeal and enthusiasm as every opinion matters and the best ideas come from the members who understand and work together. Shradha also likes to interact and participate in the Internet Governance events across the world to highlight the necessity of having youth voices in the fora and to promote an intergenerational dialogue to learn from the experience and knowledge of the senior community members. There is an important aspect where the Cooperation SIG can aid the young people and that is to Connect young people with organizations national, local - Organizations such as yours and Generation Connect by ITU, Youth Special Interest Group of ISOC and international fellowships come to give that exposure and help them become digitally literate across sectors. Youth engagement is critical in recent times; to involve young people in different levels of decision making has to be key for organisations such as APNIC.
