In case of emergency the hotel will alert you and let you know what to do, following the procedures below:

Measures to take in case of an Alert 1: Cyclone

ALERT 1 means that:

A cyclone (storm or tropical depression) could reach New Caledonia within the following 36 hours. All preparations and preventative measures must therefore be undertaken.

The following precautions need to be taken:-

  • Stay calm; there is no need to worry.
  • Be careful at all times.
  • Place all items including the chairs and table on your balcony inside your room.
  • Place the latch on the sliding door of your balcony in the locked position.
  • Draw closed the sheers and curtains of your room.
  • Remain alert and listen to the communication bulletins
  • Stow away in the drawers any items in your room which could become flying objects if thrown by wind.
  • Do not approach the beach front.
  • Do not under any circumstances leave the hotel grounds.
  • Do not ride on motor vehicle is strictly forbidden.
  • Wait for further instructions from the hotel.

Measures to take in case of an Alert 2: Cyclone moving rapidly

If a cyclone is heading rapidly for New Caledonia and its dangerous effects may reach the island within a very few hours. Get to shelters and safe living place.

You are safe while in the hotel, however the hotel recommends:

  • To stay calm, there is no need to worry.
  • Not to try to take any photos.
  • Not to open windows in order to avoid causing any draughts.
  • To ensure sliding doors are well locked with curtains drawn closed.
  • To remain in your allocated bedroom.
  • To take refuge in the bathroom if sliding doors shatter.
  • Not to move around corridors.

While the cyclone passes through:

  • If there is a lull, do not leave your room as this will be the cyclone eye.
  • Be aware if the wind suddenly drops and if the sun or moon appears. Such a calm spell may last a few minutes or an hour.
  • Keep in mind that on the other side of the eye of the cyclone, strength of the winds will be doubled and will blow as a storm in an opposite direction to what it was before the spell.
