ISC BIND's current status and future and Ddos attacks on the root
Joao Damas, ISC
- Presentation [pdf]
This presentation provided an update on ISC's current activities. The presenter discussed the current project status for development of BIND software, new features, and future plans. The presenter also discussed DNS operations (including F root server) in the Asia Pacific region. The presenter discussed the impact of the Taiwan earthquake, and an examination of DDoS attacks in February.
Questions and discussion
- It was noted that the new resolver library features in BIND would be very important to rectify issues across different platforms.
- It was noted that the software, resolvers, and the process as a whole 'did their job' and had significant success maintaining communications during DDos attacks.
- It was noted that no end user in the world would have noticed an effect on their service during DDos attacks.
-
CADR -More accurate data, cheaper
Johan Ihren, Autonomica
- Presentation [pdf]
This presentation discussed the pros and cons of DNSSEC. The presenter argued that while DNSSEC adds cost because of key management and other issues, when overall benefits are considered it may be cheaper in the long run. The presenter then outlined the benefits of CADR (a registry for DNS data). The presenter discussed using CADR as a way to simplify the complexity associated with DNSSEC.
-
APNIC DNSSEC deployment considerations
George Michaelson, APNIC
This presentation discussed the benefits of DNSSEC. The presenter outlined the activities APNIC has undertaken in the AP region, and future plans.
Questions and discussion
- It was noted that RIPE NCC were looking forward to seeing the developments in the APNIC region.
- It was asked if APNIC was considering institutional zones. The presenter responded that this area had been overlooked and should be be formally approached in 2007.
- It was noted that RIPE NCC found it easier to first deal with forward zones. It was suggested that APNIC take an incremental deployment approach.
- It was noted that with DNS deployment the big issue is getting a driver. It was noted that registries had a lot more work because they had to serve other people's data as well as their own.
-
Measurement of beginning BGP Anycast in .JP
Masato Minda, JPRS
This presentation discussed the experience in Japan of deploying experimental anycast facilities in Osaka, Tokyo and New York.
-
.CZ dispute resolution policies
Tomas Marsalek, NIC.CZ
This presentation discussed domain dispute resolution policies in the Czech Republic. The presenter noted that in Czech Republic the TLD domain is considered to be a 'national treasure'.
-
.NZ dispute resolution policies
Jordan Carter, InternetNZ
This presentation provided an overview of the role of the DRS, NZ domain registration rules, and dispute resolution policies.
-
Testing IPv6 AAAA records in the DNS Root
Geoff Huston, APNIC
This presentation discussed IPv6 DNS activities currently being carried out by APNIC and the broader community. The presenter discussed issues related to extracting IPv6 data from DNS queries.
-
Effects of the TW quake on DNS
George Michaelson, APNIC
This presentation discussed the impact of the Taiwan earthquake on DNS. The presenter noted that there was little reliable data and asked for contributions from anyone who experienced it first hand. There were no responses.
-
Rootserver report
George Michaelson, APNIC
This presentation discussed APNIC roosterver activities in 2006 and plans for 2007.
