Biographical information:
Mr. Che-Hoo Cheng holds BSc and MSc from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He worked for CUHK in the Computer Services Centre after his graduation until August 2000. In CUHK, he was in charge of the set-up and operations of the campus network. He also helped to set up the first Internet link in Hong Kong in 1991, the HKNIC .hk domain name registration service in 1993/94 and the Hong Kong Internet Exchange (HKIX) in 1995. In August 2000, he joined Level 3 Communications where he was in charge of theIP Line of Business in Asia. He worked there until Reach took over Level 3's assets in Asia in January 2002.
He is now starting up his own business.Besides his full-time job, he serves in the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association (HKISPA) since its formation in 1996 and in the Executive Council of APNIC since 1998. He is currently the Vice Chairman of HKISPA and the Chairman of APNIC EC. In addition, he serves in the First Board of Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) which will take up the management of .hk domain and in the Telecommunications Standards Advisory Committee (TSAC) of the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) in Hong Kong.
Motivation for nomination: Che-Hoo is very knowledgable in the area of Internet infrastructure. He is also very familar with the Internet industry in Asia through his 4-year service in APNIC EC, his regional responsibility in Level 3 Asia and his active participation in other AP Internet activities. His continuous services in APNIC EC will certainly benefit the APNIC community as a whole.
