APNIC at Pacific Forum 2013 in Apia, Samoa
APNIC is participating this week at the 2013 Pacific Forum in Apia, Samoa, which is a joint gathering of the Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA), Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
APNIC is participating this week at the 2013 Pacific Forum in Apia, Samoa, which is a joint gathering of the Pacific Islands Telecommunication Association (PITA), Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). APNIC will join this forum as a regular attendee at the annual PITA AGM and an active participant in Pacific Island and Asia Pacific intergovernmental forums.
As part of the ongoing commitment to support IPv6 deployment across the Asia Pacific region, APNIC Director General Paul Wilson will deliver a presentation entitled, "IPv6: an essential platform for broadband deployment" during the APT/ITU session on Tuesday, 23 April. APNIC will continue to work with APT, ITU, PITA, and many other regional partners on supporting a smooth transition to IPv6 in the region. For example, APNIC collaborates with the ITU regional Centre of Excellence to organize IPv6 workshops in support of capacity building efforts in the region, in addition to organizing training events during regional events such as NZNOG and PACNOG, and at other locations in the Pacific including Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, and Tonga.
Paul will also deliver an update on Internet Addressing and Numbering Standards on Monday, 22 April, during the Internet Resources and Policy session. Last year, APNIC's Chief Scientist Geoff Huston wrote several articles highlighting the differences between numbering standards and practices in telephony and the Internet, to assist delegates at the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) understand those differences. APNIC will continue to participate in these intergovernmental forums as a source of knowledge and information, to assist regional governmental representatives and Law Enforcement Agencies.
Elly Tawhai, APNIC Senior Internet Resource Analyst and Pacific Liaison, and Tanya Samuel, Internet Resource Analyst, will also be in attendance to assist any current and prospective APNIC Members with any questions they may have about APNIC membership.
