APNIC achieves ISO 9001:2008 QMS certification

APNIC is proud to announce that it has achieved ISO:9001 Quality Management System Certification.

APNIC is proud to announce that it has achieved ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification. APNIC is the first Regional Internet Registry (RIR) to be certified to ISO 9001 - Quality Management Systems. ISO 9001 is an internationally recognized quality management standard that provides assurance that APNIC has the type of management systems in place to deliver a quality experience for all our Members and stakeholders. It guarantees an ability to consistently meet customer, statutory, and regulatory requirements, and addresses customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system.

ISO 9001 is an internal quality management system (QMS) that focuses on the effectiveness of meeting customer requirements. Its application is underpinned by the following principles:

  • Customer focus
  • Leadership
  • The involvement of people
  • Ensuring a process approach
  • A systematic approach to management
  • A factual approach to decision making
  • Mutually beneficial supplier relations
  • Continuous improvement

Certification to ISO 9001 assures our Members and stakeholders that APNIC:

  • Maintains stringent policies, systems and procedures for the delivery of our services
  • Has documented continual improvement systems in place
  • Obtains regular feedback from our customers and uses that information to improve our services
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service

APNIC has worked rigorously to establish, implement, and maintain our QMS, with a project team managing staff training and development on its functions, processes, and procedures.

Best Practice Certification independently audited and certified APNIC's QMS in accordance with ISO 9001, commending APNIC on the high standard of its system, and of the efforts of staff. Best Practice Certification team member, Dan Bromley says "APNIC must be congratulated on the quality and amount of work undertaken to develop and implement the QMS over many years. There is evidence that staff already have a thorough understanding of the QMS functions, processes, and procedures, and the value that it has as a business tool." He was also particularly impressed with the universality of the QMS and of the diligence applied to the training and development of staff in its functions, processes, and procedures.

At its heart, ISO 9001 is a common-sense approach to the management of an organization's activities to consistently achieve customer satisfaction. As Paul Wilson, APNIC Director General, notes, "Quality certification is never a goal in itself, and in fact APNIC Members have not demanded formal certification in the past, which I think was a good sign of satisfaction. However, after years of developing our systems and procedures, it seemed to me that certification was a natural next step, and in our case, was quite straightforward. The audit report was very positive about APNIC's staff and systems, and having our systems verified against a recognized standard is something I am personally very proud to see."

APNIC has a Quality Policy in place and will now work towards maintaining and continuously improving its QMS to maintain certification. For further information or media enquiries, please contact pr@apnic.net.
