APNIC invites you to participate in the Asia Pacific regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF), which will be held from 4 to 6 September 2013 at the State University of New York (SUNY), Incheon, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The Youth IGF (yIGF) starts on 3 September.

The 2013 APrIGF is held as a joint initiative of the Korea Internet Governance Alliance (KIGA) and the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (MSIP), with the support of the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) and the DotAsia Organisation.

The multistakeholder model of Internet governance is a core principle of the APrIGF, and the program reflects an emphasis on the diversity of participants and open discussion.

The program was structured with contributions from the AP community, through an open call for workshop and session proposals, organized with the guidance of the Multistakeholder Steering Group (MSG).

The MSG is open to all interested parties within the region who are committed to openness, transparency, and multistakeholder cooperation. The program will serve as an effective means to provide input from the AP region to the global Internet Governance Forum, which will be held from 22 to 25 October in Bali, Indonesia.

What to expect at APrIGF

The program is divided into four tracks, that are aligned with some of the themes of the global IGF:

Multistakeholder and Enhanced Cooperation

Workshops in this category will focus on how the entire range of Internet stakeholders, including academia, civil society, and the public and private sectors, can work together to grow the Internet as a robust network that serves the entire Asia Pacific community.

Openness

These workshops explore issues such as data privacy and the status of the net neutrality debate in the region.

Access

The Asia Pacific region is diverse and continues to experience rapid economic growth. The region represents all stages of Internet development, from Korea, leading in Internet penetration and ICT development, to developing economies and small island nations, all facing different issues to support the development, stability and reliability of their growing Internet infrastructure. These sessions are dedicated to discussing the challenges that the region faces when Internet access continues to expand to all the corners of the region, reaching millions of new users.

Security

These workshops will explore Internet security and cybercrime in the Asia Pacific region.

Youth forum

The yIGF encourages the younger generation to participate in the policy discussion through a role-play camp, where they get to express their ideas and share their understanding of Internet governance freely. It also serves as a preparatory camp for them to understand various Internet issues and open the door to their understanding of international policy discussion.

IPv6 at APrIGF

APNIC Director General, Paul Wilson, will chair a workshop in the Access track, "Large-Scale IPv6 Technology Deployment: From Millions to Billions". During the session, APNIC Chief Scientist Geoff Huston will give a keynote speech, "IPv6: past, present, and future". Both Geoff and Paul will then take part in a panel discussion on how to accelerate IPv6 deployment. You can view the entire agenda at 2013.rigf.asia.

Remote participation

If you can't attend APrIGF in person, the entire event will be webcast live. You can watch sessions in each track from the "Live" menu on the 2013.rigf.asia website.
