APNIC participated in the APCERT (Asia Pacific Computer Response Team) AGM and Conference, which was held last week in Brisbane, Australia.

APCERT cooperates with CERTs and CSIRTs (Computer Security Incident Response Teams) to ensure Internet security in the Asia Pacific region.

The 10th Annual APCERT AGM and Conference was hosted by CERT Australia, and featured workshops, working group meetings, and other sessions based on enhancing cooperation among CERTs and regulatory bodies across the region.

APNIC supports the work of all CERTs, CSIRTs, and APCERT in keeping the Internet secure. Participants and speakers included representatives from CERTs and CSIRTs from across the region, as well as representatives from security oragnizations, content providers, law enforcement, and government agencies.

APNIC Director General Paul Wilson gave a presentation on the importance of multistakeholder dialogue and cooperation in Internet governance, including why security experts should be involved in these national, regional, and global discussions.

"The Internet we know today has always needed some level of coordination, from several different groups of stakeholders providing support within their roles. But the important thing to note is this was never regulation, just everyone cooperating to serve the best interests of everyone. This is where Internet governance was born, and that's how we want it to continue to evolve."

Mr Wilson encouraged all APCERT members to participate in the Asia Pacific Regional IGF and global IGF both being held later this year, as well as relevant national events.
