The consensus policy decisions from the APNIC 31 Policy SIG Meeting were endorsed by the Executive Council (EC) on Friday, 6 May 2011. The proposals endorsed by the EC are listed below:
- prop-097: Global policy for post exhaustion IPv4 allocation mechanisms by the IANA
- prop-095: Inter-RIR IPv4 address transfer proposal
- prop-094: Removing renumbering requirement from final /8 policy
- prop-093: Reducing the minimum delegation size for the final /8 policy
- prop-088: Distribution of IPv4 addresses once the final /8 period starts
- prop-083: Alternative criteria for subsequent IPv6 allocations
This is the final stage in the policy development process before implementation.
Immediate Implementation
The intent of the following three 'final /8' policies was that they would be implemented before APNIC began distributing addresses from that block. As APNIC has already begun distributing these addresses, the following policies will be Provisionally Active from Monday, 9 May 2011, with documentation and full implementation to follow.
- prop-094: Removing renumbering requirement from final /8 policy
- prop-093: Reducing the minimum delegation size for the final /8 policy
- prop-088: Distribution of IPv4 addresses once the final /8 period starts
Pending Implementation
The following two policies will be implemented by APNIC in the third quarter of 2011:
- prop-095: Inter-RIR IPv4 address transfer proposal
- prop-083: Alternative criteria for subsequent IPv6 allocations
Global Policy
APNIC is the first RIR community to adopt "Global policy for post exhaustion IPv4 allocation mechanisms by the IANA". The proposal must be adopted in all four remaining RIR regions before it can proceed to the final stages of the global policy development process.
