On 27 March 2009, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) issued a Questionnaire on IPv6 address allocation and encouraging the deployment of IPv6 to all Member States of the Union, to be returned by 12 June 2009.

The final report will be submitted to the closed ITU Council meeting in Geneva, 20-30 October 2009.

The Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), an ITU-D sector member, has respectfully offered a public response to assist Member States with data that may help in completing the questionnaire. The response collates information from all five Regional Internet Registries and includes:

As the representative bodies responsible for distribution of IP addresses, the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) are best placed to produce unique and reliable data on IP addressing and to offer informed interpretation of that data. All RIRs make IP address distribution data freely available to the public on their websites.

APNIC advises that stakeholders seeking to understand the dynamics of IPv4 exhaustion and IPv6 deployment should also take into account other factors, such as Internet penetration rates, local market competition and population densities, when interpreting and extrapolating address distribution data.
