This follows presentations by the Working Group at recent meetings of all three Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), including APNIC 13 held in Bangkok, Thailand in March 2002, and the ASO General Assembly.
The RFC 2050 Working Group was established in September 2001 with the objective of addressing the issues relating to relevance of RFC 2050 to the needs of today's Internet registry system. The group is responsible for evaluating RFC 2050 and for proposing a method of replacing it with a new document or documents. APNIC encourages those in the Asia Pacific region with an interest in IP address policy to volunteer to work in small editorial teams to draft and edit the new documents proposed by the Working Group, including:
IP-ADDRdoc 1: Instructions to editors and authors of IP-ADDRdocs
IP-ADDRdoc 2: A guide to addressing policy, allocation, and principles
IP-ADDRdoc 3: The principles of IP address allocation for IPv4
IP-ADDRdoc 4: The principles of IP address allocation for IPv6
IP-ADDRdoc 5: The principles of AS number assignment
IP-ADDRdoc 6: Criteria guidelines for IPv4 address allocation
IP-ADDRdoc 7: Reverse mapping services for IPv4
IP-ADDRdoc 8: Addressing and numbering organizations and relationships
The Working Group is seeking volunteers to draft and edit these documents, in particular, IP-ADDRdocs 1,2,3 and 5. To volunteer please email the Working Group Chair, Mr Mark McFadden indicating which documents you would like to work on.
