This update provides a progress report on the implementation of membership and policy decisions made at APNIC's 12th Open Policy Meeting, held in Taipei from 28-31 August 2001.
Membership Issues
The following items were approved by the APNIC membership during the APNIC Member Meeting on 31 August:
- Revised membership structure;
- APNIC Standard Membership Agreement (v5); and
- APNIC Definitions Document (v3)
The revised membership structure provides 3 new membership categories:
Associate, for Members holding no IP address resources; Very Small, for Members holding up to a /22 of IPv4 address space; and Extra Large, for Members holding more than a /10 of IPv4 space. With this change, the number of APNIC membership categories is increased to seven from the current level of four (namely Small, Medium, Large and Very Large).
The revised membership structure, along with the new membership agreement and definitions documents, will be implemented for new Members joining APNIC from 1 December 2001; and they will apply to existing Members as membership renewals occur, from 1 March 2002 onwards.
Policy changes
A number of policy proposals were discussed at the Open Policy Meeting, firstly during SIG sessions and then during the APNIC Member Meeting. Some proposals were approved by consensus of the APNIC membership, while others were referred back to SIGs for further development.
A full summary of the decisions taken at the meeting is available.
The APNIC Secretariat is currently implementing the policy decisions which were made at the meeting, and a number of new or revised documents will be available for use by 1 December 2001.
New documents include the following:
- Evaluation guidelines document;
- Internet exchange (IX) address request form text only (online version by 1 February 2002); and
- Multihoming assignment address request form text only (online version by 1 February 2002).
Revised documents include:
- APNIC policy document (APNIC-076);
- ISP address request form online and text; and
- Membership application form online.
These documents, and further details of the implementation process, will be made available on the APNIC website over the coming months.
