It is a privilege for me to submit my Expression of Interest for the Chair position of the Routing Security Special Interest Group (SIG). With over 13 years of hands-on experience in the cybersecurity industry and active engagement in global internet governance initiatives, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to this vital SIG.
Throughout my journey, I have had the honor of managing the founding Secretariat of the Asia Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG), and later serving as the Vice Chair of its Executive Committee. These roles enabled me to actively promote knowledge exchange and capacity building across the Asia Pacific region. They also deepened my understanding of policy advocacy, multistakeholder engagement, and the collaborative nature of efforts required to build a secure internet ecosystem.
At the national level, I proposed the management structure for the Pakistan School on Internet Governance (pkSIG) in 2016 and voluntarily managed its Secretariat for two years. In addition, I served the Internet Society (ISOC) Islamabad Chapter in a voluntary capacity for five years—first as Secretary and later as a Member of the Board of Directors. This tenure strengthened my connection with the local technical community and civil society, helping promote ISOC's mission and values through regional activities. Beyond APSIG, pkSIG, and ISOC, I have been an active participant in ICANN, the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF), and other forums, where I cultivated a strong appreciation for the critical role of routing security in maintaining operational stability. My work with the OIC-CERT, Cyber Security Task Force Pakistan, and other key entities further highlights my commitment to strengthening internet infrastructure security and resilience. I am deeply committed to knowledge dissemination and capacity development. This is evident in my extensive engagement in cybersecurity workshops, training sessions, and advisory consultations with Civil Society and Pakistan’s Federal Government.
My participation in OIC-CERT and APCERT Cyber Drills also reflects my ability to lead and collaborate in high-pressure, team-oriented environments. If elected as Chair, I pledge to promote the SIG’s mission through greater information exchange, inclusive outreach, and targeted capacity-building efforts. I envision a collaborative space where network operators and stakeholders can share best practices, emerging challenges, and solutions related to routing security. I am confident that my technical background, community leadership experience, and passion for cybersecurity can help the SIG advance its objectives and foster a more secure and resilient internet.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. I look forward to the opportunity to serve as Chair and contribute to the continued success of the Routing Security SIG.
