APNIC FELLOWSHIP CATEGORIES

APNIC Fellowships are available for professional, youth and the alumni. Applicants must be citizens of and residing in the Developing, Least Developed Country (LDC) or Small Island Development State (SIDS) economies, as listed on the United Nations Website within the Asia Pacific region.

Professional Fellowships

Professional Fellowships are available for those who have completed their studies, are employed, or are seeking jobs or managing a business.

Criteria
  • Preference is given to those who have not yet had any experience with an APNIC conference; however, it is open to everyone
  • Demonstrated ability to use the experiences gained from the fellowship experience to encourage local interest in APNIC
  • Good understanding of the importance of APNIC's role in managing critical Internet number resources in the Asia Pacific region
  • Interest to contribute to the APNIC Policy Development Process (PDP)
  • A willingness to support APNIC's capacity-building program at NOG and/or local events
  • A willingness to contribute to APNIC's social media and fellowship alumni networks

Youth Fellowships

APNIC introduced the Youth Fellowship initiative at the APNIC conference to encourage and foster the confidence, passion, and commitment of the next generation of the Asia Pacific Internet community’s technical leaders. It offers young people an opportunity to meet and share ideas with the APNIC community and technical experts from around the world.

Criteria
  • Applicant age under 30 years
  • Currently pursuing studies or graduated in an ICT course at a recognized educational institution
  • Provides clear evidence of strong motivation for attending the APNIC Conference
  • Demonstrates interest and knowledge in APNIC activities
  • Demonstrates experience in participating in discussions at national and regional levels, and in multicultural environments
  • A willingness to contribute to APNIC's policy development, social media and fellowship alumni networks

Returning Fellowships

Returning Fellowships are available for those who have received a Fellowship for either APNIC or APRICOT in the past, and have demonstrated outstanding skills, leadership and desire to further contribute to the APNIC community.

Criteria

Same as Professional Fellowships criteria, plus:

  • Applicant must have previously received an APNIC or APRICOT Fellowship
  • Demonstrated commitment to the technical community
  • Actively participate in the APNIC Policy Development Process (PDP)
  • Deep knowledge of Internet environment in their local economy
  • Demonstrated contribution to local community since completing the initial APNIC or APRICOT Fellowship
    • Membership/service to NOGs and other local groups, SIGs, Fellowships, awards, mailing lists, board positions, training, mentoring, blogging on technical topics, advocacy
  • Demonstrated plan to engage with and contribute to the community during or after the meeting
  • Ability to influence peers and a strong professional network
  • A high level of integrity
  • Commitment to the necessary time to fully participate in the program
Terms

  • Abide to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism
  • Actively engage with the Fellowship Alumni channels
  • Share experiences with other communities
  • Must subscribe to APNIC policy and other mailing lists, if not already subscribed

Actively encourage their local community participation in the PDP discussions on the mailing list and/or remotely.
