Visa Information - Australia

Who needs a visa?

If you are not an Australian citizen, you will need a visa to enter Australia.

How do I get a visa?

If you are travelling on a New Zealand passport, you may be issued with a visa on arrival. All others must obtain their visa in advance. Please remember that without a visa, you may be refused entry to Australia.

Visas are available from Australian visa offices such as Australian Embassies, High Commissions, and Consulates. They are also available, in Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) form, from travel agents and airlines in certain countries.

For more information, refer to the Visa section of the online Australian Government Guide to Visiting Australia. This site is available in several languages and will help you learn more about visa and customs requirements, as well as many other aspects of visiting Australia.

Can I get a letter of invitation?

If you require a letter of invitation in order to help you obtain the appropriate travel documents, please contact Connie Chan at APNIC connie@apnic.net.

Customs and Duty Free restrictions

For details about duty free allowances in Australia, please see the Customs section of the Guide to Visiting Australia.

Because Australia is an island continent, it has remained free from many pests and diseases, particularly those affecting agriculture. As a result, Australian Quarantine regulations are quite strict. Things such as food, herbs, plants, wood, or animal products must be declared on entry into the country and may be quarantined or prohibited. For similar reasons, all plane cabins are sprayed upon landing - so please don't be alarmed to see your flight attendant coming towards you with an aerosol can.
